The nominations for Czech Grand Design 2012 Awards was made public at the exhibition opening at the National Technical Museum on December 20, 2012.
The exhibition, which will take place until March 31, 2013, presents the results of the voting procedure by the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic that consists of 51 curators, theorists, and journalists from the Czech Republic and abroad. In the first round, the Academy nominated 134 entities in 8 categories with 206 projects in total.
Thus, the visitors will have an opportunity to see works by the nominated designers in the following categories: Designer of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year, Jewelry Designer of the Year, Graphic Designer of the Year, and Photographer of the Year.
The best design of the year 2012 will be displayed in a surprising architectural installation designed by Ondřej Tobola and Radim Babák from the studio of Hippos Design, who won the Designer of the Year 2010 Czech Grand Design Award. The exhibition will be installed on a huge velodrome. Thus, a visitor standing in the ellipse will become the pivot of the best design made in the Czech Republic during the previous year.
The graphic design of the exhibition was made by Martina Černá from the studio of Imagery.
Three finalists from the 2012 nominees in each category will be announced at the nomination ceremony in Letenský zámeček on January 17, 2013 after the second round has been closed. The winners will be selected during the third round of voting.
